HTC Vive Devkit coming this leap, consumer edition later this year

HTC has just announced it'south coming Virtual Reality Headset The 'Vive' which is being adult in collaboration with Valve. It appears that the Vive is actually coming out this twelvemonth. With a Developer Edition coming this Spring, and the Consumer edition coming out "this Vacation".

What's interesting is that the Twitter account "SteamDB" tweeted a few days back that the outline of a VR headset had been uploaded in a recent DB update, this later the press release from Valve stating that SteamVR would be revealed during GDC, and most of us thought that this meant we would run into an actual reveal at GDC but maybe it will be more hands on and so.

The HTC Vive will offering a 90Hz refresh charge per unit and 360-degree views, the goggles themselves are fitted with a motion tracking system that tin can "encompass an entire room", and the Vive volition come with a pair of wireless "VR Controllers". It is rather clear that SteamVR/Vive is meant to be more of a Holodeck experience if you lot compare it to say Oculus Rift. HTC'southward CEO Peter Chou mentioned a few examples of what you lot will be able to do with the Vive.

"Attending real-time concerts, learning history, reliving memories, Nosotros believe that virtual reality will totally transform the mode that we interact with the world. Virtual reality volition get a mainstream engineering science for the rest of the world"

It's starting to look like 2022 will be a great yr for VR, and if the Vive with it's motion tracker and included controls works as advertised then the Vive tin can be astonishing. Nosotros shall see what Valve has to say during GDC, hopefully nosotros become some more info so. Specs:
